About Derek Stewart

Derek Stewart is the creator of Mission Ironman.  He is a serial entrepreneur; Owner & Managing Director of Strategic Asset Managers Ltd, Founding Partner of The Silent Partner and creator of The Gathering. 

For 14 years Derek has advised major companies in the financial services sector on their strategy, market penetration and getting the most from their people.  He is a keynote speaker at conferences in the UK and Europe and is revered for his inspirational speaking style which audiences can relate to. 

Having researched your business Derek links all his key messages to improving the performance of the business and these lessons can be transferred into the personal lives of your team making them stronger.

Derek turns 50 in December 2011, is married and has three children. He wasn’t an athlete but wanted to give something back to the community and raise money for a worthwhile charity.  He discovered triathlon at the age of 46 but could only swim 40 metres and after cycling 10 miles he need help to get off his borrowed bike. After 3 months he finished a short distance triathlon and within 2 years had completed the ultimate triathlon to achieve Ironman status.   

Derek's Training Regime

An Ironman involves swimming 2.4 miles in open water, then cycling 112 miles followed by a marathon (26.2 miles).  To most people, including Derek, completing any one of those disciplines would be a significant achievement.  But completing them in one go seemed nearly impossible.

During Mission Ironman Derek has inspired many people to tackle goals, not necessarily physical, they would never have dreamed they could achieve.  His journey continues and his next two major challenges are not for the faint hearted:

• May 2012 – Lanzarote Ironman, probably the toughest Ironman in the world where “normal limits do not apply”
  
• April 2013 – Marathon Des Sables, 151 miles across the Sahara Desert in 6 days carrying your own supplies - “the toughest foot race on earth”
